About me

I am a Ghanaian PhD Student in the REMATH Project at the Mathematics and Science Didactics department. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics Education and a Master of Philosophy degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana. I possess critical analytical skills, which enables me to analyse issues objectively. I am a serious student, committed to academic work and determined to reach the highest level in academia.

Before joining Stockholm University, I was an Assistant Director II of the Ghana Education Service. I served as the Website Administrator, the ICT Coordinator and a Mathematics Tutor at Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Ghana. I was a facilitator for the Ghana Education Service on “Helping Teachers integrate Technology in their Teaching”. I also taught Mathematics part-time at the Institute of Education and College of Distance Education, University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

I wish to be one of the most outstanding mathematics education lectures ever using ICT in assisting students to understand mathematical concepts. ICT has become a buzzword for the contemporary school system and a topic of relevance for most educational organisations, analysts, and scholars. Existing ICT integration in mathematics education has demonstrated the importance of helping students and teachers in teaching and learning. This has continued to evolve over the years and, in recent times, especially in the 21st century, tends to embrace a more diverse and holistic view of mathematics education. Consequently, I hold instructional technology in mathematics education with high esteem.

I plan to uplift the image of Stockholm University through quality research and other academic and non–academic assignment. Learning how to achieve your goals and, more importantly, putting what you learn into action will help inspire others to pursue their own goals with the same determination that you had in achieving your goals, and that is what inspires and motivates me. This brings about a change of standards of the people in the community, country, and world. The best way to get this rut is to start surrounding yourself with people full of life motivation. I believe that Stockholm University is just the right environment to offer me the opportunity to achieve my desired goals.

I have collaborated on several publications (‪Farouq Sessah Mensah - ‪Google Scholar) and am always willing to assist anyone who needs my help. I am noted for the following quotations; “small small”, “it is well”, and “one day one day”.

Teaching

Before joining Stockholm University, I taught the following courses at the undergraduate level at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

  1. Development of Instructional Materials in Mathematics Education
  2. Teaching Problem-solving in Mathematics Education
  3. Advanced Study of Basic School Mathematics

Research

My research focuses on instructional technology in mathematics education. My PhD thesis proposal uses sequential explanatory mixed methods to examine how the Swedish upper secondary school teacher education programs prepare and develop pre-service mathematics teachers TPACK by exploring how the Synthesis of Qualitative Data (SQD) model contributes to developing each TPACK domain.
