About me
I received the B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from University of Iceland, Reykjavík Iceland, in 2011, the Masters degree in Applied Mathematics (Optimization and Systems Theory) from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm Sweden, in 2013, and the PhD in Electrical Engineering from the same institution, in 2017. I was a postdoctoral researcher 2018-2019 at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA and a visiting PhD student at Harvard University for 9 months in 2015 and 2016.
Most of my research focuses on distributed optimization, decision making, and machine learning where a number of nodes/agents cooperate to achieve optimal global behaviour based on local decisions, local data, and possibly some communication. This is the typical setting for decision making and AI in cyber-physical and IoT systems where autonomous nodes try to manoeuvre their physical environment based on local sensing/actuation and coordination with other nodes. These algorithms are also important in large-scale machine learning where multiple nodes build complex statistical-models based parallel processing of local data and communication.
This project aims to make AI fair, transparent, and just, ensuring it benefits everyone in society. By addressing biases in healthcare and education, we’re working to build AI systems that serve society equitably and responsibly.
AI and data-driven autonomous decision-making will play a leading role in the digitalization of critical infrastructures for electricity, water, and transportation. This project explores our future smart societies.
The shift towards renewable energy comes with technical challenges. We investigate how AI-algorithms can be used in the electric networks of our cities for smart coordination and control of the more volatile, renewable energy resources.
In this project, we investigate the next-generation distributed AI and Machine Learning algorithms in complex networks. Our aim is to find more sustainable solutions.
