SOFI’s gender research group GAINS (Gender Analysis and Interdisciplinary research Network, Stockholm) is a cross-disciplinary research environment that aims to facilitate social science research on issues related to gender. Our focus areas include the labor market, health, education, and family relations. As of 2023, the group consists of about 30 active members inside and outside SOFI. Membership is informal and open to all interested researchers and practitioners. Those who wish to join the group or receive our e-mail are welcome to contact Sandra Thiman at sandra.thiman@sofi.su.se.
GAINS was established in 2017 by sociologists and economists at SOFI. Our main goal is to gather researchers and practitioners for a cross-disciplinary dialogue about gender in the economy. Additional goals include to provide research-based policy advice and to create a supportive and constructive environment for young researchers. Most researchers come from economic and sociology and use quantitative research methods.
The group offers the following regular activities
- Monthly group meetings with presentations by researchers and practitioners
- Monthly research seminars within SOFI’s seminar series in labor economics
- Regular research workshops
- Team-building retreats
Examples of the group’s teaching and external outreach activities include
- A bi-yearly course in Gender Economics within the PhD program in Economics at Stockholm University
- An outreach seminar collaboration with the Center for Business and Policy Studies (SNS) in Stockholm.
