Research group Marketisering and competetive tendering for social work

This group’s research interests concern the implications of marketisation and competitive tendering for social work.

Today, a significant part of the services that are provided through the municipal social services (such as residential care and in-home treatment) are delivered by private for-profit companies. In addition, the internal organization of the municipal social services has been heavily influenced by ideas from the private sector. The strong position of private providers and the influence of private sector ideas has meant an introduction of new logics, norms and actions to the field of social work. The research produced by this group has highlighted the implications of these changes for the care-landscape, the clients and the professionals. Several studies concern the Swedish field of social work, but researchers from this group are also members of international networks in which marketisation and competitive tendering in different countries are analyzed and compared.
