The network of image studies is an alliance of scholars at Swedish universities. The purpose is to create a forum for discussions and contacts in image studies by organising workshops and seminars and by initiating national as well as international collaborations.

Image studies is a research area aligned both to the German Bildwissenschaft tradition and the Anglo-American field of visual studies. At the centre stands questions about the theory, history and contemporaneity of images and visual phenomena in a broad sense. The research area includes image cultures and visual practices from the visual arts to the images of everyday life and science in different times, contexts and transdisciplinary perspectives.
