Research project Growing older, working longer: the role of working conditions
Prolonging working lives is an important means to promote healthy aging and the sustainable development, thus is a high priority on the agenda of policy makers. Understanding workplace factors in shaping a longer working life appears as a frontier issue.
This project aims to identify modifiable workplace factors that contribute to working beyond the statutory retirement age 65 and to provide evidence for the development of preventative strategies to promote the sustainability of aging workforce.
We will use data from the ongoing national cohort study: the Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey of Health (SLOSH, n=40 877, 2006–2018). The cross-sectional study includes employees aged 65 and above who participate at least one wave of the survey (n=7935), the follow-up studies consist people who were younger than 65 at baseline and will reach 65 at any of the follow-up surveys (n=5581). The dataset has biennially measured psychosocial and physical working conditions, sociodemographic, lifestyle factors, and health status, etc. over 12 years.
Evidence on modifiable factors influencing a longer working life may lead to the development of effective prevention strategies to promote healthy aging and the sustainable development of the aging workforce.
