Research project Mechanistic investigations of antibiotic–drug interactions

Many pharmaceutical drugs are known to alter bacterial physiology and influence the efficacy of clinically important antibiotics. In this project, we aim identify novel antibiotic-drug interactions and determine their underlying molecular mechanisms.

By using a combinatorial screening approach, we will systematically evaluate interactions between clinically important antibiotics and a curated library of >500 pharmaceutical drugs with chemical properties likely to influence antibiotic activity. We will then determine the molecular mechanisms behind these antibiotic–drug interactions. Our aims are to harness beneficial synergies to enhance antibiotic treatment efficacy and minimize the risk of unexpected antibiotic treatment failures.
