Research subject Mathematical Statistics
The research in mathematical statistics comprises probability theory and statistical inference theory with applications in many domains.
We focus on applications in biostochastics and biostatistics (in particular genetics, epidemic spread, neural systems), discrete random structures (in particular random networks, graphs and random growth models), finance and insurance (in particular portfolio theory, stochastic control theory, financial and insurance valuation, predictive modelling).

Courses and programmes
The first few courses in mathematical statistics at Stockholm University are given in Swedish, so our bachelor's programmes in the subject are only available to students who meet the Swedish requirements. However, if you have studied some mathematics and mathematical statistics already, you may be eligible to take courses in higher bachelor's level, which are usually given in English, and can be taken as separate courses.
We also have a master's programme in mathematical statistics, which is open to international students.

Doctoral studies
We have a PhD programme in mathematical statistics with about 10 PhD students, and we usually announce new positions in March or April each year.

Departments and centres
The research activities take place at the Department of Mathematics.
