Research subject Intercultural and decolonial performing arts

Intercultural and postcolonial performing arts aim to produce knowledge about theatre, dance and performance outside the Euro-centric cultural area, from both an historical and a contemporary perspective.

The field is characterized by postcolonial theory and problematizes contemporary geopolitical power relations and the colonial heritage in relation to theatre studies and theatre historiography. Furthermore, the field focuses on issues around representation and cultural diversity. Great emphasis is placed on theatrical and performative genres outside the Euro-centric area, but also intercultural encounters on Swedish stages.
