Environmental Humanities IV – Fieldwork nature/culture environments
The course aims to allow students to try out different methods of fieldwork in natural and cultural environments. This knowledge is based on the more-than-human perspective of environmental humanities and explores different kinds of care and sustainability ethics and analyses in this field. These include methodological skills in integrated natural/cultural environment inventory and analysis. Students are also introduced to fieldwork techniques that focus on interview work, as well as exploration with artistic methods. The course provides advanced skills and abilities for future working life. The students will critically, independently and creatively identify and formulate questions in the fieldwork. This involves planning inventory and reporting tasks in the field of sustainability, as well as carrying out qualified fieldwork tasks under supervision. The students will evaluate each other's work. If necessary, the fieldwork is linked to the problems that will later be addressed in the thesis.
The work is based on in-depth discussions of the concept of natural and cultural environments and links it to a broader discussion of ecologies, as well as taking a look at contemporary theoretical and methodological discussions in several thematic seminars and lectures.
Due to its focus, the course is useful for many professions working with society's sustainability challenges. The content provides tools for carrying out fieldwork based on environmental humanities, especially with regard to nature and cultural environment care.
