Tellus III - Geology
This course consists of preparatory work (at home), a field study in the Stockholm archipelago, a choice between specializations in either geochemistry or petrology on campus at Stockholm University, and follow up work (at home).
During the field study, we will learn how to use geological skills acquired from Tellus I – Geology and Tellus II – Geology, to unravel the geological history of the Stockholm archipelago. We will learn about volcanos that are nearly 2 billion years old, the rise of oxygen in Earth's atmosphere, early life, our (possibly) oldest mines, the discovery of lithium and how the land has risen since the end of the last glaciation.
