Love and Resistance: Poetry and Narration in Japanese Court Literature

The course covers a study of representative fictional texts from the Heian period (794-1185) with an emphasis on the court literature of the tenth and eleventh centuries.

In this primarily feminine poetical and narrative discourse love and resistance as figures for interpretation and re-interpretation in a discussion of central themes and concepts.

  • Course structure

    The course consists of one module, 7.5 credits.

    Teaching format

    The teaching is in the form of lectures and seminars. The methods of teaching for the current semester are made available in the course description distributed at the start of the course.

    Assessment

    The examination is in the form of a take-home assignment.
