The Molecular Properties of Proteins
The course gives in-depth knowledge of the structure, folding and properties of proteins. How point mutations affect the molecular behavior of proteins and the interaction of proteins in the living cell at the molecular level is covered. The course also trains the ability to formulate and test hypotheses and to use laboratory techniques, computer-based methods and basic bioinformatics.

Course structure
After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- explain the principles behind the structure, folding and properties of proteins, as well as how these are affected by mutations.
- show ability to predict effects of amino acid mutations.
- explain the interaction between proteins in the living cell, and how this interaction connects to cellular function.
- formulate and test hypotheses about relevant issues in protein research.
- demonstrate proficiency in quantitative analysis and interpretation of experimental results.
- demonstrate proficiency in and be able to explain the principles behind laboratory techniques and computer-based methods for protein analysis.
Modules
The course consist of the following modules;
Module 1: Teori (theory), 5 hp
Module 2: Laboratory exercises (Laborationer), 2.5 hp
