During this course you will learn fundamentals in statistics and machine learning, and gain practical knowledge and the possibility to use methods in language and speech technology. Applying statistical methods in software is an important part of the course. You will learn more about the following:

  • Descriptive Statistics - learn how to describe and analyze data using measures of central tendency and variability.
  • Statistical Modeling and Regression - explore how statistical models can be used to predict and explain phenomena within linguistics.
  • Inferential Statistics - understand how to draw conclusions about populations from samples, an important component in research and analysis within language data.
  • Fundamentals of Machine Learning - learn the basic concepts and classic algorithms of machine learning, and discover how these techniques can be used in language and speech technology.

A significant part of the course is devoted to practical application, where you'll have the chance to use statistical methods through various tools. This not only provides you with theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that are directly applicable in the field of language and speech technology.

Statistics and Machine Learning is a course in our Master's programme in AI and Language.
