Methodology II

Mandatory course in Master´s Programme of Global Media Studies and Master's programme in Journalism Studies. Only students within the program can register to this course.

Students admitted to Master's Programme Fall 2024.

The course is the second of three method courses within the department's master's program in journalism studies and global media studies.

The course provides in-depth skills in a spectrum of humanities and social science methodologies used in Media and Communication Studies and Journalism research. Different methods for production, content and audience studies as well as for studies of media structures are applied and evaluated during the course.

  • Course structure

    Teaching takes place in English in the form of lectures, seminars and workshops. Attendance and participation at seminars and workshops are course requirements.

    For a passing result on the course, the student must be able to:-    

    -    in-depth skills in different types of research methods used in media research
    -    a critical understanding of the methods' scientific theoretical tradition and starting points
    -    ability to formulate an advanced scientific method project
     

    Teaching format

    Teaching takes place in English in the form of lectures, seminars and method exercises. Assignments and oral presentation at seminars are course requirements.

    The course is examined through an take home exam.

    The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
