In the First Cycle the Stockholm University Department of Human Geography offers programmes and separate courses. The language of instruction in all programmes and most of the courses is Swedish. Education clearly reflects the research and active researchers teach at all levels. In the First Cycle students will meet both very experienced teachers and young academics.

The Department is relatively small – which provides good conditions for excellent relations between students and between students, teachers and other staff. On the other hand the Department is large enough to offer courses and tuition in a wide spectrum. The Department offers a good and stimulating learning environment. Field courses and excursions are priority elements in teaching. Paper and thesis writing is a central part in education.

Human Geography

To obtain a Bachelor degree in Human Geography there are four ways: 1. The Bachelor's Programme in Human Geography – Society, Environment and Global Processes, 180 HECs. 2. Two semesters of Human Geography in addition to the obligatory courses at the Bachelor's Programme in Urban and Regional Planning, 180 HECs. 3. Human Geography as the main field of studies within the Cultural Studies Programme, 180 HECs. 4. Study Human Geography as separate courses (including three semesters in Human Geography, totally 90 HECs) and combine with other courses. Some courses in Human Geography may also be included in the Bachelor's Programme in Geography, 180 HECs, and Bachelor's Programme in Urban and Regional Planning, 180 HECs, and several other study programmes.

Urban and Regional Planning

For a Bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Planning the student have to be accepted to the Bachelor's Programme in Urban and Regional Planning, 180 HECs. Depending on the choice of courses it is possible to also receive a Bachelor degree in Human Geography, Economics or Statistics after completing the three years.

Geography

For a Bachelor degree in Geography the student can either study separate courses or the Bachelor's Programme in Geography, 180 HECs. The Study Programme for Master of Education and Master of Science, Specialization in Geography, 330 HECs, consists of courses from the First Cycle and the Second Cycle. There is also a Teacher Education Programme with specialization in Geography for school year 7-9 and the upper secondary school, 270 HECs.
