The course deals with various methods and techniques for spatial analysis of social phenomena. Within the course framework, different types of data will be handled in both raster and vector formats and with various software. Methods for data capture and data processing are also discussed during the course. An element of basic spatial statistics is included in the course.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- describe methods in spatial analysis, and what kinds of analyzes can be done based on different forms of geographic data.
- use geographical information practically in the analysis of socio-geographical phenomena and take into account various sources of error.
- critically evaluate projects or analyzes carried out with geographical information systems.
Education
Instruction is conducted in the form of introductiuon, lecturers, seminars and exercises.
Examination
Student performance is evaluated through testing students’ knowledge and understanding as defined by the learning outcomes. Testing of knowledge and understanding takes place via written exam and written assignments for exercises and seminars.
