The Department of Human Geography is located in the Geo-Science Building at the Stockholm University campus Frescati within the Royal National City Park at northern Djurgården in the City of Stockholm, Sweden.

The construction started in 1994 and the building opened in 1997. In 2007-2009 there was a major refurbishment and extension of the building. The building houses four departments: Department of Applied Environmental Science, the Department of Geological Sciences, the Department of Human Geography, and the Department of Physical Geography.

The Geo-Science Building consists of several parts which are called house R, S, T, U, V, X and Y. The room numbers consist of a letter and three numbers. The letter indicates in which house room is located. The first digit indicates the floor. Rooms X326 is thus on the 3rd floor of the X house.

Seminar rooms and lecture halls

Most seminar rooms are located in the U and Y houses. The lecture rooms are called De Geer (house Y, 2nd floor), William-Olsson (house Y, level 1), Nordenskiöld (house U, 3rd floor), Ahlmann (house U, 3rd floor) and Högbom (house U, 3rd floor).

Places of study and social and informal learning areas

Places for reading and rooms for team work are available in the Geo-Science Building. The largest space is located in the U house, 3rd floor. There are social and informal learning areas and kitchenettes for students on the 1st floor of the U and Y houses.

Study places are also available in the Frescati Library (the main library), a few minutes’ walk from the Geo-Science Building.

Offices for faculty and staff

The Department of Human Geography offices is in the Geo-Science Building on level 3 and 4 of the X house.

Opening hours

During the semester the Geo-Science Building normally is open Monday-Friday from 07:45 to 17:00; the entry at Svante Arrhenius väg 12 (house U) Monday-Thursday at 07:45 to 19:00, Friday at 07:45 to 17:00. The entrance in the southern part of the X house is open Monday-Friday at 07:30 to 17:00.

Recycling

In the Geo-Science Building there is a recycling station in the social and informal learning area on level 1 in the U house.

Smoking is not allowed

Stockholm University is a smoke-free zone. Smoking is not allowed within the University premises or within 15 meters from the buildings. Smoking is therefore prohibited in all parts of the Geo-Science Building, and within 15 meters from the building.

Security

Call 112 immediately to report ongoing crime and other emergencies. When calling 112 for ambulance, fire brigade or police please tell the street address (stated on a sign in every lecture hall, seminar room and corridor); the street address to the main entrance at the porter's office in house S is “Svante Arrhenius väg 8”, the entrance to house U is “Svante Arrhenius väg 12”, and the entrance to house Y is “Svante Arrhenius väg 14”. If possible, then call 08-16 22 16 (the University's Section for Safety and Security) or the campus security at the University's emergency number 08-16 42 00 (alternatively 08-15 42 00); asks for the security guards at Stockholm University and tell what happens. Stockholm University security personnel are on campus around the clock. Security guards are from Tempest Security. To report crimes, threats, harassments, or other security related problems anonymous call 08-16 11 55 (answering machine without caller ID at the Section for Safety and Security). Security risks and more can also be reported online in Samir, su.se/samir.

Fire and burglar alarms are installed in the building.

Fire extinguishers are available on each floor, see the posted instructions. Evacuation in the event of fire or other danger is made as posted in the building. Evacuation assembly point is in the field south of the building.

Defibrillators are available in house S (2nd level, at the wardens), house U (2nd level) and house Y (2nd level, at the elevator). When a defibrillator is removed from the wall mount an alarm sounds and the campus security is altered.

First aid kits are available in at the wardens on the 2nd floor in house S, at the toilet rooms on the 1st floor in house U as well as in room X306.

Technical errors should be reported to the teacher. For urgent problems that needs to be addressed outside office hours, please call the University's emergency number 08-16 42 00.

Never leave valuables unattended in the building. Bring bags and clothing into the lecture halls.
