Open Lecture - Liza Zúñiga Collado, Political Scientist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
Latin America is usually referred to as one of the most violent regions in the world. One of the reasons is due to the spread of so-called criminal organizations. In this lecture Liza Zuniga Collado, analyses the real possibilities for weak and unstable states to control this type of criminality. She outline the evolution and challenges from criminal organizations to Latin American states and societies, as well as the experiences and ways through which these have tried to confront the problem. An overall theme is concerned with the forms of cooperation within and among states that might be needed to find solutions.
Liza Zúñiga Collado
Political Scientist from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile with a Master in criminology and criminal justice at the University of Edinburgh. She is currently doctoral student at the University of Chile, and member of the project CRIMLA (Crime in Latin America) headed by Prof. of Criminology Sveinung Sandberg, at Oslo University. Between 2015 and 2017, Zúñiga was head of department of organized crime, for the Chilean Ministry of Interior and Public security. She is currently visiting scholar at the Department of criminology, Stockholm University.
