Om mig

I am a researcher in Jonathan Martin group, and principal investigator of the project EXPOAIR - Indoor Airborne Exposures and their Connection with the Human Chemical Exposome. The funding of this project comes from the Career Grant for Early-career Researchers from FORMAS. EXPOAIR project aims to profile organic compounds in indoor environments and assess residents' exposure. Using a unique cohort, air passive samplers will monitor airborne chemicals in 200 homes, while biosamples (plasma, urine, hair) from residents will undergo analysis. Both air and biosamples will be examined with advanced chemical exposomics techniques (targeted and untargeted high-resolution mass spectrometry), supported by toxicological tests on selected air samples for lung cell viability, inflammation, and oxidative stress. It involves an international collaboration between University of Athens (Greece), where I will for a two-year exchange, IDAEA-CSIC (Spain), and Stockholm University.

Before that, I did my postdoc in the same research group, in charge of the INQUIRE project (Horizon Europe), that aims to protect citizen health by providing knowledge, tools, and measures that substantially improve indoor air quality. We conducted research and evaluating innovative actions to detect and reduce hazardous chemical determinants in homes, with a focus on exposure of infants and young children in over 200 homes distributed across 8 countries.

I obtained my PhD at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Barcelona University (Spain), where I applied novel analytical methodologies and mass-spectrometry approaches to identify and determine contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) in different stages, from their release until they are degraded (transformed) or (bio)accumulated. The thesis contributed to improving the understanding and knowledge about CECs occurrence, removal, transformation, transfer, and fate in aquatic ecosystems, agrifood environment and, ultimately, humans.

My interests combine all aspects of analytical chemistry, exposomics workflows and high-resolution mass-spectrometry, including data acquisition, raw data pre-processing and data analysis.
