Om mig

Lise Pettersson Roll is professor in Special Education at Stockholm University, and program director of the master program in Special Education with a focus on autism, neurodevelopmental disabilities and applied behavior analysis, which is also the first master program with this focus in Sweden. The program has been approved of by Applied Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) as meeting Verified Course Sequence standards. Together with Professor Jenny Wilder she coordinates the research group “Participation, learning and disability” which arranges national and international presentations and seminars. Between 2008- 2011 she was Associate Professor Faculty of Behavioral Science, Akershus University College in Norway.

Research interests include quality of learning environments, evidenced based interventions, and systemic policy affecting the learning and development of children with autism and developmental disabilities. She is principal investigator of a four-year project funded by the Swedish Research Council, (2021-2024) conducted in collaboration with Prof Sven Bölte KIND (Center of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Karolinska Institute) and Prof Sam Odom, FPG Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Promoting inclusive educational environments for children with autism and other social-communication challenges: Preschool class and primary school. There is at present lack of structured tools and systematic strategies to work with, and develop the quality of, the school’s learning environment to match the needs and abilities of pupils with autism and similar social and communication challenges. Through a pilot study and quasi-randomized group design study, the aim of the present project is to investigate possibilities and mechanisms for improving inclusive learning environments in grades 0, 1, 2, and 3. It is expected that the study will provide important information which can be anchored and disseminated within the prevailing school system, thereby contributing to long- term improvements of the learning environment, enhancing positive inclusive practices and well-being of pupils with autism.

Additional research interests include cultural aspects affecting supports and services to children with autism, as well as, the needs and perceptions of parents, extended family and teaching staff.
