Bayesiansk statistik för astronomer och fysiker

Bayesian inference is an internally consistent formalism for data analysis

that, thanks in large part to advances in computing power in recent

decades, is now in widespread use in astronomy and physics. It has a

particular appeal to students and researchers in these fields as the

implications of Bayes’s theorem can be derived from a few basic equations,

just as is the case in much of physics. The course will cover the fundamentals

of probability, Bayes’s theorem and inference, the numerical sampling

techniques (primarily Markov chain Monte Carlo, MCMC) that can be applied

directly to practical problems of data analysis in astronomy and physics.
