Description
The objective of this presentation is to investigate the influence of socio-economic status on human-environment interactions between the medieval climatic anomaly and the Little Ice Age in southern France (10-16th centuries). More precisely, the aim is to examine the changes in rearing strategies, animal size, health status, and carcass exploitation strategies. This study focuses on the analysis of faunal remains from various sites within these two periods. The research relies on comparative anatomy, biometry, enamel hypoplasia analysis, traceology, utility indices, and experimental archaeology in order to reconstruct and comprehend the impact of environment on animal husbandry and consumption practices. The presentation will introduce the research project and present the preliminary results obtained from the biometric study conducted on pigs and caprines.
