Professor Josep Soler Carbonell is among the researchers who have been granted project support from the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond to complete his research project Linguistic Justice at the University.
The purpose of the project support, known as the RJ Sabbatical, is to enable researchers to complete advanced research within 6-12 months. Josep has been granted 1.4 million SEK to complete his work, which deals with the use and status of different languages in higher education, an issue that has been the subject of discussion among leaders, researchers and teachers in many different geographical and subject areas.
Josep's work also aims to produce empirical evidence on linguistic tensions at universities and to develop a framework to address such tensions. The project seeks to find new ways of thinking about and dealing with tensions around languages in higher education, which has become a growing problem in recent years.
Josep describes the sabbatical as the key to completing a monograph. He will work with Associate Professor Matteo Bonotti at Monash University and investigate a number of questions in language and politics.
