Research subjects
Stockholm University conducts research in two areas of philosophy: Practical and theoretical philosophy
Research at the department is divided into practical and theoretical philosophy. Practical philosophy is concerned with values and moral action. Are there objectively correct answers to moral questions? Which ethical problems does the latest biomedical research give rise to?
Theoretical philosophy is concerned with foundational questions about reality, knowledge, consciousness, language and logic.
In practical philosophy the department is particularly strong in moral philosophy, including metaethics, and in applied ethics - particularly medical ethics. Theoretical philosophy has a significant competence in the philosophy of language and mind as well as in logic and philosophy of science.
