Commemorating the 80th anniversary of Tarfala Research Station. In 1945, mass balance measurements were started at Storglaciären. Today, the measurement series is the world's longest continuous detailed mass balance series. The first measurements in 1945 also marked the beginning of the activities that would become the core of what is now Tarfala Research Station.
The activities at the research station were initially focused on glaciological and geomorphological studies, but have expanded to include studies in permafrost, hydrology, climatology and ecology. The station also hosts art projects to visualize and communicate ongoing research, in addition to other scientific communication such as science cafés and open houses.
2025 is also the 'International Year of Glacier Conservation', declared by the United Nations to draw attention to the ongoing changes in the cryosphere.
The conference will be held in a lunch-to-lunch format with invited speakers, on August 25-26, 2025 at Stockholm University.
We welcome poster contributions from conference participants!
A post-conference excursion to Tarfala Research Station will take place on August 29-30. August 27-28 are set aside as travel days.
