Marc Friedländer Receives ERC Proof of Concept Grant
The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded Marc Friedländer, researcher at the Department of Molecular Biosciences, a grant of €150,000 to develop his research findings into commercial applications.

Marc Friedländer received funding for his project Food quality control by RNA profiling (foodRNA). A total of 134 researchers from 20 different countries were awarded grants in this round, including four affiliated with Swedish host Universities.
"It was very interesting to learn and write about paths to commercialization and also about food quality control, since these are new topics to me, I normally do basic research on RNA biology, says Marc Friedländer.
He adds:
"Also, the help from the Innovation Support was invaluable with regards to paths to commercialization and IPR – and they put me in contact with consultants in these areas".
The ERC Proof of Concept Grant is available to recipients of an existing ERC award and supports early-stage efforts to transform research findings into commercially or socially valuable innovations. Upcoming deadlines for ERC Proof of Concept Grant are March 13th, and then September 18th.
Approved Research Projects from ERC Proof of Concept Grant (Round 2):
- Marc Friedländer, Stockholm University, with the project Food quality control by RNA profiling (foodRNA)
- Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam, Karolinska Institutet, with the project GlobalPROTECT; Global-Ig: a population-based antibody library technique to optimize the development of globally protective vaccines
- Madeline Balaam, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, with the project Pneu-Haptics: Unlocking the Potential of a Haptic Cueing System for Driver Communication, Collaboration and Control with (Semi-) Autonomous Vehicles
- Giovanni Volpe, University of Gothenburg, with the project MiniTweezer: Optical Tweezers with Automation and Artificial Intelligence
