Research project Classroom as an arena for literacy development
A reading project in grade 7 with the aim of describing how playful, multimodal activities and literature teaching can be designed.
The research study was conducted in grade 7 at a one-to-one school. The study can be described as a process study in which involvement in and outcome of a fiction reading project is examined. In the study, aesthetic learning processes and above all pedagogical drama have been used to engage students in teaching and to develop students' fictional reading comprehension.
The students showed a vital commitment in many of the completed teaching activities. In the analysis of the texts they produced in connection with the reading, the students also showed evidence of the ability for literary analysis by discussing the read material.
