Research project Preventing fall accidents among older people
Falls among older people are a serious problem that causes both human suffering and high social costs. There is extensive knowledge about how falls can be prevented, but there is often a lack of knowledge about the conditions required for this to be put into practice, by older people themselves, by staff in social services, home care and healthcare.
In the project, researchers, healthcare professionals, staff in elderly care and pensioners' associations work together to learn from each other in a collaborative learning process to develop both knowledge support and an understanding of how the support can be used in different activities. By promoting collaborative learning, the project hopes to contribute to more preventive fall prevention work with fewer fall accidents as a result. The project is also expected to contribute with a model for collaborative learning between professions and organisations that can be used in other areas.
The project builds on the *R&D unit in Sörmland's ongoing work on the development of a web-based knowledge support for fall prevention based on global guidelines, which can be applied both in elderly care, primary and inpatient care and civil society.
Collaboration partners in the project are: researchers at Stockholm University and the R&D unit in Sörmland, elderly care in nine municipalities, the Sörmland region and pensioners' associations (SKPF, RPG, SPF and PRO).
*R&D, Research and Development, means systematic activities to increase knowledge in a specific area and at the same time develop new methods or solutions to develop the activities.
Project title: Develop arenas for collaborative learning in the implementation of a fall prevention programme across organisational boundaries.
