Lithuanian - Bachelor's Course
The aim of the course is for you to secure your theoretical and practical knowledge in the Lithuanian language and to gain experience in the scientific process. In addition you will gain good knowledge in Lithuanian literary history as well as an introduction to folklore.

Course structure
Modules
The course consists of the following parts:
- Lithuanian Morphology and Syntax II, 6 ECTS
This module covers the structure of the Lithuanian language through the study of certain theories and models in the areas of morphology and syntax, and through the analysis of the language's idiomatic and metaphorical structures. - Lithuanian Literature Part 2, 6 ECTS
This module covers Lithuanian literature and its essential characteristics from the 19th and 20th centuries within a cultural-historical context. - Academic Writing, 3 ECTS
This module addresses written language skills with a focus on academic genres and scholarly writing. It covers topic selection and narrowing down, selection of materials and academic literature, source evaluation, and thesis structure. - Bachelor’s Thesis, 15 ECTS
In this module, students write a thesis in Swedish, English, Latvian, or Lithuanian on a literary, linguistic, cultural-historical, or other topic within Baltic Studies. The thesis includes an oral defense in a seminar and an oral opposition to another student’s thesis.
Teaching format
Teaching is conducted in the form of group exercises, lectures, seminars, and supervision.
The teaching is conducted in Lithuanian, Swedish, and English.
The course can be taken either remotely or on campus, depending on the specific session.
Assessment
- Lithuanian Morphology and Syntax II, 6 ECTS: Assessed through 4 written assignments.
- Lithuanian Literature Part 2, 6 ECTS: Assessed through 2 written assignments and an oral examination within the course.
- Academic Writing, 3 ECTS: Assessed through 3 written assignments.
- Bachelor’s Thesis, 15 ECTS: Assessed through a written thesis, a defense of the thesis, and an opposition to another student’s thesis. If only one student is taking the course and the normal thesis defense procedure cannot be followed, the independent work will be examined as follows:
- As an opponent, the student must orally oppose a previously submitted thesis in front of the examiner and supervisor and/or course leader. The department assigns the thesis.
- As a respondent, the student must orally defend their thesis. The opponent is appointed by the department and can be a student from a higher level/another subject/program, a PhD student, or a teacher.
The principles for combining the individual assessment tasks are outlined in the grading criteria.
Examinations are conducted in Lithuanian. For the Bachelor’s Thesis, the examination can be conducted in Swedish, English, Latvian, or Lithuanian.
If a student has a certificate with a recommendation for special educational support due to a disability, the examiner has the right to provide an adapted exam or allow the student to take the exam in an alternative format.
