Welcome activities

Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities that stretch over a few weeks at the beginning of each semester. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes Arrival Service at the airport and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.

The course comprises of eighteen to twenty weeks of internship at a private or public organization, authority, or coorporation.

The overall purpose of the course is to increase the student's employability by giving students the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. Therefore, the intern, in consultation with the employer and supervisor, should carry out an internship. This will involve applying subject knowledge in an area relevant to the labour market

  • Course structure

    Learning outcomes

    To obtain a passing grade, the student must be able to:

    • plan, execute and in written form present independent assignments, reflecting upon scientific, societal and ethical aspects.
    • identify, formulate and solve problems that occur during the internship
    • apply subject knowledge of relevance to the labour market
    • reflect upon the internship and analyse its relation to the student's previous studies, in particular within International relations and/or Economic History, as well as in relation to potential career paths and working areas after graduation.

    Important

    Please note that only students with an internship placement agreement approved by the department are granted access to the course.

    Note also that this course may not be included in a degree together with a course, taken in Sweden or elsewhere, of identical or partially similar content (e.g. EH6103).

    Teaching format

    The course consist of internship and seminars.

    The teaching language is English.

     

    Assessment

    The course is assessed through:

    • Attendance at the host organization during the entire internship period. Additionally the internship must be carried out in alignment with agreements, which should be confirmed in writing by of the host organization
    • Participation in seminars.
    • An internship report of 10-12 pages, which is written and assessed towards the end of the course.

    The course is individually graded on a two-grade scale with the grades U-G (Fail/Pass).

    The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
