Issues and Approaches in East Asian Studies
The Issues and Approaches in East Asian Studies engages with the study of East Asian societies, histories, and cultures and polities, while critically addressing the frames within which these studies have traditionally been located.
The course challenges colonial and nationalist framings, engages with regional approaches as well as emphasizes trans-regional and global perspectives, which acknowledge the role of Asia as an agent of global transformations. In this course the students will familiarize themselves with a wide range of issues and approaches central to the study of East Asia which is interdisciplinary, intersectional, comparative and global in scope.
