Oceanography, Introductory Course
The oceans cover 71% of the total area of the Earth. It is therefore not surprising that the oceans exercise a great influence on the climate and living conditions on the Earth. But how do the oceans really work? What controls them? How do they interact with the rest of the climate system?
This course gives an overview of different subjects in oceanography, with emphasis on physical oceanography. It covers the development of ocean basins, physical properties of seawater, geophysical fluid flows like wind-driven currents and currents driven by differences in temperature and salinity, waves and tides. It further covers the role of the oceans in the climate system.
The course is given entirely in Swedish. Please see the Swedish description of the course.
