The Master’s Programme in Early Childhood Education and Care is for you who have a preschool teacher’s or a teacher’s degree, or who have studied in such subjects within social sciences that are listed the admission requirements, and want to progress in your career. The programme is also preparatory for doctoral studies.

The programme is also preparatory for doctoral studies.
The programme gives you the opportunity for advanced knowledge with different scientific specialisations about children in the preschool age. It also gives you knowledge about the preschool as the first institution in the educational system.
You get to train your ability to search and critically analyse information from different types of sources. You will also work interactively with children and other agents in interventions and experiments. In the programme, you get to develop the ability to reflect and act with basis on both scientific and close to practice perspectives.
The programme gives you opportunities to work within many fields. For example, various children’s rights organisations, as investigator, or business developer within the municipality and authorities.
The programme is fulltime and web-based. It means that the majority of the teaching will be offered remotely through the internet. The setup consists of both self-studies and web-based teaching during daytime. The teaching is primarily conducted through seminars that require active participation by the students. Access to webcam and headset/speakers is therefore necessary.
Early childhood education and care is an interdisciplinary subject that focuses on small children’s living conditions, language, play, development, and learning. Included in the subject is also knowledge in how laws, the curriculum, political decisions and structural conditions affect the preschool, the preschool teacher profession, and the children.
Degree
The programme leads to a Master’s degree within the main field of study Early Childhood Education and Care. There is also a possibility to get a Master’s Degree worth 60 credits after having completed the first year (60 credits, including a degree project worth 15 credits).
