Our trust in international organizations is shaped by how we perceive their ideological leanings

Many assume that people's political ideologies shape how much they trust international organizations (IOs), but research has struggled to prove it - until now. A new study by professor Lisa Dellmuth and Jonas Tallberg, co-directors of the Stockholm Center on Global Governance, co-authored with Matthias Ecker-Ehrhardt, Department of Political Science, University of Bamberg, Germany, reveals that what really matters is how people perceive the ideological leanings of these organizations.

Expert: European leaders restless over Trump's meeting with Putin

A summit between Trump and Putin in Moscow has been welcomed by both the Kremlin and Washington. However, for Europe, the new negotiations over Ukraine are a significant concern. Researchers urge Swedish parliament to ban nuclear weapons on Swedish soil

"Donald Trump has once again assumed the presidency of the United States, and his remarks about Greenland, among other topics, are raising alarm. How can Sweden avoid a scenario where nuclear weapons are stored within our borders against our will?" asked Pål Wrange, a professor of public international law and SCGG-affiliate at Stockholm University, and one of three authors of an op-ed published in the Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter on Tuesday.

Expert says ICC arrest warrants come as no surprise

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants last week for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others in Israel-Hamas fighting, accusing them of crimes against humanity in connection with the 13-month war in Gaza. "The request for an arrest warrant came as early as spring, and it has taken quite a long time," Mark Klamberg, professor in public international law, told Swedish public broadcaster SVT Aktuellt on November 21.

Research grant to Pål Wrange's project on "Digitalization and contestation in international law"

On Thursday, 21 researchers within social sciences and humanities at Stockholm University received grants from the Swedish Research Council amounting to 96.6 million Swedish kronor. Professor Pål Wrange, professor at the Department of Law and member of the SCGG board, received funds for his research project on "Digitalization and contestation in international law".

Hungary sets a new tone for the EU presidency slogan

The European Union has seen a variety of slogans from its member states holding the presidency of the Council of the EU through the years, ranging from "One Europe", "We need more Europe" to "rEUnite." As Hungary assumed the presidency on July 1, 2024, it picked the phrase "Make Europe Great Again”, thus echoing former U.S. President Trump's old campaign slogan.
