Emergence of Communities of River Practitioners (CoRPs) to co-develop and enact Nature-based Solutions that work with the river
Research theme 2 | Water, biogeochemistry and climate
hosts a seminar by Gary Brierley, professor at the School of Environment, University of Auckland, New Zealand
Abstract
Prof. Brierley (School of Environment, University of Auckland, New Zealand) is a world-renowned expert in developing adaptation pathways and policy guidance through bottom-up experiences including local knowledge and approaches that give nature (here, rivers) their own agency. In Europe, exploring how locals may want to contribute to a sustainable transition is new ground for research. The insights gained through Prof. Brierley´s line of research relate to climate-change related conflicting values, such as land use impacts on water resources and biodiversity, and river ecosystem degradation. The seminar is part of a collaboration with Anna Scaini to interpret local-river experiences from New Zealand in the context of Swedish and other European rivers. The research visit is partly supported by Bolin RT2.
