Workshop for ECRs on science communication
On the 27th of January, the Bolin Centre and the SU Press Office co-organized a workshop on science communication with author and former researcher Jonas Enander. The workshop, titled “Your Science Story” was aimed towards our Early Career Researchers, with about 15 of them in attendance.
Jonas Enander has a PhD in physics and has worked as a post-doc researcher in cosmology. Today he devotes his energy to science writing and communication. He has worked as a science communicator at the European Southern Observatory and the Oskar Klein Centre, and regularly writes for different popular science magazines. In august 2024, he published the book Mörkret & Människan: Om svarta hål och vår plats på jorden on Albert Bonniers.
During the workshop, Jonas covered effective storytelling techniques that can be applied to different audiences, from people with no technical background to funding committees. With the help of writing exercises, attendees left the workshop with the foundation needed to perfect their own science story.
Some feedback from attendees included:
That was really interesting to see how we can use fiction frameworks to storify our own research
as well as
It was simple, easy to follow and effective tips
Many thanks to Jonas for a fruitful workshop, and to all attendees for your contribution!
