Research project Professional development in biomedical laboratory scientist undergraduate students
Biomedical analyst students should develop a professional identity that both ensures credible test results and facilitates collaboration with other professionals. This study investigates how BMA students' education supports this development and what factors influence their ability to feel confident in their future professional role.

For biomedical analysts (BMAs) to be able to deliver accurate test results and contribute to patient safety, it is crucial that their professional role is developed during their education. This takes place both through theoretical studies and through clinical placements, where students learn the specific knowledge, skills and values required to work effectively with other healthcare professionals.
The aim of this study is to investigate how BMA students' professional identity and competence develop during their training, with a focus on their ability to collaborate with other professionals and contribute to patient-safe care. The study also aims to highlight the factors that influence this development, including emotional and social aspects, and to identify possible areas for improvement in education to strengthen students' professionalism and professional role. The study also examines the professional role in practice.
The study hopes to contribute new insights into how BMA students are shaped into licensed professionals and how this process can be best supported.
