Research project Young adults´ educational and life careers in rural and surburb areas
The aim of this project is to examine young adults’ educational and life careers in areas that are perceived as culturally and economically disadvantaged and how their educational and life careers can be enhanced.

By young adults we refer to 18 to 25 years old women and men, migrants and native Swedes in rural and urban areas. By educational and life careers we mean individuals’ continuing life choices and opportunities concerning education, work and leisure.
The project addresses the following broad research questions:
- What ´spatial pockets of (in-) equalities´ can be identified in the intersection between young adults’ biographies, geographical and virtual spaces?
- How do these ´spatial pockets of (in-) equalities´ impact on young adults’ educational and life careers?
- How can the educational and life careers of young adults be enhanced?
The project is a three year interactive, longitudinal multiple case study. It consists of two cases, one rural and one urban area, which are perceived as culturally and economically disadvantaged.
The methodological designuses mainly qualitative methods but also to some extent quantitative methods for identifying ´spatial pockets of (in-) equalities´.
It also consists of an interactive part where key actors and partners together with researchers gain mutual understanding and engagement in how to enhance young adults educational and life careers and thereby their life chances.
