This course delas with the dynamic processes of cultural politics within the East Asian countries, and how these processes forms the local, regional and national as well as transnational identities within a given period of time

Welcome activities

Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities that stretch over a few weeks at the beginning of each semester. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes Arrival Service at the airport and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.

The focus of the course is placed current strategies of the cultural politics in the East Asian countries, that are made in order to meet the contemporary challenges of a time when culture is considered as a key dimension in globalisation. As a backdrop for understanding current features in cultural politics and how it has been developed in Japan, China, North- and South Korea, earlier priorities will also be discussed.

  • Course structure

    The course identifies relevant changes in the cultural politics of the East Asian countries during different periods.

     

    Teaching format

    Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars. Attendance at all teaching is mandatory. The language of instruction is English.

    Assessment

    The course is examined on the basis of a case study, which is presented orally during the course and in writing at the end of the course.

    The subject of the case study is chosen in consulation with the examiner.

    The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
