This course in language technology will introduce key techniques used in language technology applications. The course is designed to provide you with a foundation in automatic text analysis and processing.

Welcome activities

Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities that stretch over a few weeks at the beginning of each semester. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes Arrival Service at the airport and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.

Throughout the course, you will develop basic methodological skills to analyze and process text automatically. You will dive into the theoretical concepts behind language technology and simultaneously gain practical experience with the tools and methods used in the field. The course covers:

  • Language Models - Understanding the models that enable computers to process and understand human language.
  • Methods and Techniques for Language Technology Applications - An overview of the various methods and techniques that are crucial for the development of language technology applications.
  • Evaluation of Methods and Systems - Knowledge on how to critically evaluate different methods and systems for their efficiency and applicability in real-world situations.

Language technology is a course in our in Master's programme in AI and Language.

  • Course structure

    Teaching format

    Instruction is given in the form of lectures, seminars and laboratory sessions.

    Assessment

    This course is examined on the basis of written assignments and oral presentations.

  • Schedule

    The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course.
