This course provides an overview of information retrieval as an application in computational linguistics, with an emphasis on basic techniques as well as evaluation methods.

Welcome activities

Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities that stretch over a few weeks at the beginning of each semester. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes Arrival Service at the airport and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.

For the grade passed the student, on completion of the course, must be able to:

  • Describe the role of information retrieval as a field and how it relates to natural language processing and natural language understanding

    Teaching format

    The teaching consists of lectures and laboratory sessions under supervision,
    in the language (English or Swedish) specified for each course instance.

    Assessment takes place through oral and written presentation of assignments.
