Forskningsprojekt Peer gender composition and student outcomes in high school

The aim of this project is to provide evidence on the outcomes of individuals who choose their high school program gender-atypically and start a program where they belong to the minority gender.

We will focus on the extent to which having same-gender peers matters for high school completion and academic performance. Further, we will analyse how much peer composition matters for later labour market outcomes. We use fixed effects at the school-program level and analyse how much the share of same-gender peers affects our outcomes of interest. The identifying variation comes from (idiosyncratic) variation in gender composition within a program-school combination across cohorts.
