Om mig

Rebecca is a sociologist of education and work. Her research takes place at the intersection of education and labour markets, and pays special attention to vocations, trajectories and temporality. In recent years, her research projects have examined elite institutions, higher vocational education, and transnational education strategies. These studies have allowed her to analyse education-to-work pathways that are institutionalised, as well as pathways that are emerging and anticipatory, and offered her opportunities for fieldwork experience in Singapore, the United Kingdom and Sweden. You can read more about her recent research projects and publications here.

Before life in academia, Rebecca worked in the foreign service as well as conducted research for policy and practice at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies and Institute for Adult Learning in Singapore. She is presently Assistant Professor at the Department of Education, Stockholm University, and a Visiting Fellow at the Nanyang Technological University. She received her PhD in Sociology from Stockholm University and a Master of Science in Sociology from the University of Oxford.

Current projects: Together with Margarita Chudnovskaya and Erik Nylander, Rebecca is working on in-depth, mixed methods project on the higher vocational education system in Sweden, funded by the Swedish Research Council. She is also working on a project that is concerned with revisiting the notion of "sponsored mobility" by examining a specific type of education to work trajectory: one where students are selected early and sponsored to study abroad in elite universities, with the obligation to return to their home country to take on a vocation in the public service.

Undervisning

At the Department of Education at Stockholm University, Rebecca has been involved in the International and Comparative Education Masters programme, teaching courses such as Theory of Science. She has also been teaching on the cross-departmental masters programme in Human Relations, on Sociological Perspectives on Organization. At the Department of Sociology previously, she taught on Qualitative Analysis and Methods courses, as well as on Sociological Theory.
