The Arrhenius Plaque is one of the highest distinctions in Swedish chemistry, awarded annually to individuals who have made outstanding scientific contributions in the field or have provided valuable service to the Swedish Chemical Society. Established in 1960 in memory of Svante Arrhenius, the award honours a legacy of scientific excellence and engagement.
Professor Martín-Matute is recognised for her outstanding contributions to the development of new sustainable catalytic processes for forming carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. Her research develops new catalytic methods to construct complex organic molecules with a strong emphasis on sustainability. This includes converting water, carbon dioxide, and other renewable resources into chemical products.
In addition to her research, she actively contributes to the global scientific community. She serves on the advisory boards of ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering, Chemistry – A European Journal, and ChemistryEurope, and is an associate editor of Organic Letters, one of the American Chemical Society’s leading journals in the field. Belén Martín-Matute is also an elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Class for Chemistry.
