Analytical Chemistry

Analytical chemistry research at the Department of Chemistry comprises development of analytical methods and techniques for qualitative and quantitative determination of organic compounds and biomolecules relevant to human health and the environment, as well as characterization of materials.

Inorganic and Strucutral Chemistry

The study of molecular structures, properties, dynamics and properties. The study of molecular structures, properties, dynamics and properties. We push the limitations boundaries of current techniques for structural characterization from micro- to nano-crystals, from crystalline to amorphous materials, from zeolites and metal-organic frameworks to pharmaceutics and proteins.

Materials Chemistry

Or materials for a sustainable society as we want to call it. The scientists at the Department of Chemistry address issues related to energy storage and conversion, a clean environment, improved human health addressing important social development goals.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry studies the structure, properties and reactions of carbon compounds.

Physical Chemistry

All material things around us, and we ourselves, consist of molecules. Molecules consist of atoms, atoms consist of electrons and atomic nuclei. Behavior of all these small parts of materia is determined by the fundamental laws of quantum mechanics.

Advanced analytical techniques for materials, environment, and health

Analytical chemistry research at the department of Chemistry develops analytical methods and techniques for qualitative and quantitative determination of organic compounds and biomolecules as well as characterization of materials. Sampling, separation science, mass spectrometry, ionization techniques, as well as detection methods and data processing tools.

Bioorganic chemistry

The research in Bioorganic chemistry is based on Organic chemistry and borders Biochemistry and Biophysics; the three-dimensional structure as well as molecular interactions of chemically synthesized or isolated biomolecules are investigated and unraveled.

Electron crystallography/Analytical TEM

We develop new methods for studying composition and atomic arrangements in solids using state-of-the-art transmission electron microscopes. The techniques include continuous rotation electron diffraction (cRED), scanning electron diffraction, high-resolution (scanning) transmission electron microscopy (S)TEM, electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS).
