Anti-Racism Working Group Seminar

Seminar

Date: Wednesday 25 October 2023

Time: 12.00 – 13.00

Location: B900 and Zoom

The aim of the Roundtable discussion is to provide an overview of the Tidö proposal on “Informationsplikt”- the duty to inform, how it affects people on the move, the ethical dilemmas we all face, and how it impacts our work at the university as researchers and teachers as we work with migrants and noncitizens.

Welcome to join our next session! We are fortunate to have such generous colleagues who will provide their expertise and discuss possible next steps. After the discussion there will be time for Q&A. Please note this Roundtable will be in English (with some Swedish terminology).

Special thank you to Paula Mählck, Department of Education at Stockholm University, for co-organizing this session.

Speakers include:

  • Anna Lundberg, Sociology of Law, Lund University: current status of law, potential impacts
  • Patricia Lorenzoni, Center for Multidisciplinary Studies on Racism, Uppsala: on researchers
  • Fredrik Hertzberg, Education, Stockholm University: role of teachers
  • Paula Mählck, Education, Stockholm University: on autonomy, academic freedom

Moderator: Vanessa Barker, Sociology, Stockholm University

About the Anti-Racism Working Group Seminar Series

The Anti-Racism Working Group (ARWG) aims to recognize the structures and practices of racism within our field and confront it through the platforming of anti-racist efforts in Sociology and beyond. We invite academics, activists, and artists to share their experiences, research, reflect on recent work, and join in conversation.

Everyone is welcome. Students are particularly encouraged to attend and participate. For the foreseeable future, all seminars will take place over Zoom. To join our group email list and receive Zoom links please contact Vanessa Barker, vanessa.barker(a)sociology.su.se.
