Fields of specialization include modern and contemporary culture and literature from Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. We address research areas such as contemporary Sinophone and world literature, literary history, translation and religious studies, memory culture and topics such urbanisation, diaspora, gender, memory and trauma.
There are no research project connections.
Beginner courses in Chinese are offered every autumn semester as part of the six semesters required to attain a bachelor’s degree. All courses are offered as freestanding courses.
We offer a few freestanding courses at the master's level. Some of the courses are part of the Master's Programme in Asian Studies and are not available for application as a stand-alone course.

The Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies offers third cycle studies (Doctoral studies) in the main area: Asian languages and cultures.
Doctoral studies in Asian languages and cultures consist of area studies with the focus on one or more of the main language and culture areas Japan, China and Korea.
The multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary PhD studies are characterised in that a substantial part of the material consists of both primary and secondary sources in the source language determined by the thesis project.
