Research group PRECIS – Process, Requirements, Enterprise, Capability, Information Systems modelling
PRECIS research group deals with theories, methods and tools for analysis and design of organizational and IT solutions in congruence. The group’s research covers three key topics – Enterprise Modelling, Business Process Management, and Conceptual Modelling.
The PRECIS research group’s key areas of interest are methods and tools that support the development of information technology solutions that are aligned with the organisational needs. This is primarily addressed by researching topics such as Enterprise Modelling, Business Process Management, and Conceptual Modelling.
Enterprise Modelling deals with elicitation and analysis of organizations designs, such as goals, rules, actors, processes, capabilities, and information system requirements in an integrated way. Enterprise modelling strives to consolidate various stakeholder views into an enterprise model. We also work with knowledge modelling, requirements engineering, and capability management.
Enterprise Modelling can be used to discover and analyse organisational problems, develop strategy, align socio-technical systems, manage risk, and innovate ongoing businesses. Our research is applied in industry sectors such as health care, education, business consulting, tourism, energy, and automotive. A specific application area of enterprise modelling is digital business ecosystem design and management.
Research in Business Process Management uncovers innovative approaches to enhance operational efficiency across diverse sectors. Our group focuses on the entire BPM lifecycle, from designing and analysing process models to simulating scenarios and utilizing advanced process mining techniques for data analysis. Our research spans various sectors, including public e-services, healthcare, and beyond.
Research on Conceptual Modelling focuses on the main principles of method and tool development, such as meta-modelling, method-engineering, and development and customization of modelling tools.
The group’s researchers have developed or contributed to development of a number of modelling methods. For example, 4EM (For Enterprise Modelling), EKD (Enterprise Knowledge Development), FEM, and KYKLOS.
