Research subject French and Francophone Literature

This research area deals with literature from France and the French-speaking world.

Literary texts are examined from critical perspectives such as geneology, genre, poetics, rhetoric, message, intertextuality, reception and socio-cultural contexts as basis for analysis.  Studies draw on perspectives of a large variety and aim to produce illumination of complex phenomena and construal of text interpretations.  These perspectives can be text-, author-, reader- or contextbased.

The aim of the project is to investigate the creative writing process in self-translated texts. The project is based on a case study focusing on Marika Stiernstedt's four self-translations, published in French between 1917 and 1935. Stiernstedt (1875-1954) is little known as a self-translator.

L’érosion de l’influence française

Quel bilan tirer du XIXe Sommet de la Francophonie, qui s’est tenu début octobre en France, pour la première fois depuis 33 ans ? Malgré une union de façade des pays de l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) réunis sous la bannière de la célébration de la langue française, cet événement a mis en lumière les tensions entre certains gouvernements africains et l’érosion de l’influence de Paris en Afrique.

Alice Duhan, Romklass, awarded Swedish Research Council grant

Alice Duhan, currently postdoctoral research fellow at Romklass, has been awarded research funding from the Swedish Research Council in the annual call for humanities and social sciences. Her three-year project, "Translingual Writing post-1945 and the Multilingual Spaces of French Fiction", examines literary texts written by second language authors in French and asks how this literature can contribute to a re-reading of recent French literary history from the vantage point of multilingualism.
